FAQ’s
I am not sure of the problem?
That is okay, and most people who come to therapy feel this. Together we will make sense of the problem and understand how it is being maintained.
How many sessions will I need?
Although NICE recommends a certain number of sessions for different problems, we can discuss this together during our assessment. You are entitled to stop the sessions if you wish to do so at any point.
How often will I need sessions?
Weekly sessions are recommended initially but these can be spaced out to fortnightly if you wish to do so. Sometimes you may find a three weekly gap towards the end of treatment is also beneficial. However, this depends on each individual.
Will CBT Therapy work for me?
Being committed and doing the in between session tasks is an integral part of CBT. Taking notes within session (is encouraged), bringing a notepad is helpful so you can jot down key points learned for the session. CBT is not a “quick fix” and requires the time and effort for it to work. Some people may just find CBT is not suitable for them and this can be discussed with the therapist at any point.
What if I want to cancel?
A 24-hour notice policy is requested for all cancellations. Less than this incurs the 50% session rate charge. No contact/notice incurs the full rate charge.
How do I pay?
Cheque and cash are not accepted at the current time. BACS Payments (Bank Transfer) are required 48 hours before the session.
Do you do home visits or can I visit you at a location?
Home visits are not available at the current time, however face to face sessions will be available in the near future and a location will updated on the website.
Can we do online therapy sessions via Skype or Zoom?
Yes! Online therapy is becoming increasingly popular and research shows that it is still beneficial for clients. Benefits: can fit around home and/ or work commitments and some people find it less anxiety provoking than face to face.
Where do sessions take place?
Online via a remote platform or Telephone.
What do I do if I am in a crisis?
The Encouraged Self CBT service is not a crisis service. If you feel you need emergency assistance or you are worried about any risk of harm towards yourself you can contact 111, your GP, attend A&E, or call Samaritans on 116 123 or Sane Line on 0300 304 7000.
